I will lead a Canning Bee at a location TBD on Friday September 9th from 5-10pm for those of you interested in making some pickled beets, pickled carrots, zucchini relish etc.  There will be a Harvesting Bee on Wednesday the 7th to harvest and possibly clean all the ingredients that we need for the Canning Bee.  EOGG is supplying the jars and ingredients like salt that we don’t grow ourselves and pizza (or other dinner option).  I will organize the location, “the plan”, the people, the supplies, “the Bee” and supper.

If you want to want to get in on this great free canning session you must contact me by Tuesday September 6th at cgue@shaw.ca so I can do “The Plan”.  If there is something in particular you would like to make, or have a favorite recipe that you would like to share let me know.  If you are willing to pick up some of the supplies (to be reimbursed) including supper, please let me know.  If you have any other questions please ask.

If anyone has extra rhubarb please bring it on Wednesday September 7th to the garden and we will also make carrot+rhubarb jam.

It should be lots of fun and delish!

ps. After Wednesday the 7th I’ll confirm with all interested parties and send more detailed info.

    Count Robert, Elvira, and two little guys in  for the Canning Bee. i am so excited.  hey Travis how about some delicious pizza from Dacapo's, and i am pretty sure they would deliver…?

    i can get a discount, and it is no problem to organize. i would just need a total of mouths to feed, when we know who all is coming, and i am thinking we would probably eat before we start the physical process of canning so that we can work smoothly through…5:00-5:30ish?

    Thanks Elvira for offering to take care of supper. I’ll let you know numbers on Thursday before.I’m getting lots of responses which is great. If you can’t make it right at 5pm that is OK. We’ll be canning at the Knox-Metropolitan United Church kitchen (83Ave and 109St.)I’ve had a number of offerings for supplies we do not need any more pots but in general I could use one or two more jar lifters, magnetic lid lifter, jar rack, and everyone should bring one good knife and/or peeler and a cutting board if you have – the knife and cutting board selection at the church is very limited. We don’t need jars but if you have extra ones with new lids you can bring them.See you then!
